Have you ever heard someone say, "There are two kinds of people in this world." And then they go on to tell you the two kinds and everyone has two other types that are different than theirs. Jesus says there are four kinds of people. Which kind you are could very well determine where you will spend eternity. Jesus says... |
Luke 8:4-8 The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road; and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out. Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great.
Well, there you have it. The roadside soil, the rocky soil, soil with thorns, and the good soil. Read on...
Luke 8:9-15 His disciples began questioning him as to what this parable meant. He said, Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
Jesus says that these four kinds of soil are actually four different kinds of people, four different kinds of hearts that people have. Jesus says that the seed which is the word of God, is sown into your heart. He explains that how you respond to the word of God reveals what kind of person you are, what kind of heart you have. Only the person who responds with a good heart - the one who keeps it - will bear fruit.
How have you responded to the word of God? Do you blow it off? Ignore it - Don't give it any thought at all? Do you believe for a little while and then abandon it? Do you hear it and consider it, but you are more interested in the things of the world - shopping, travel, tech gadgets, money, entertainment. Do you care more about these things than about getting to know God? You are reading and understanding the word of God right now, how will you respond to what God says? Ask God to change your heart. Ask him for a heart that seeks him and wants to know him for God says...
Jeremiah 29:12-14 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Tell him right now that you want to know him. Tell him that you believe in him and Jesus whom he sent. Don't remain as you are, let him change you. Let him change your hard, rocky, thorny heart to a good heart who loves God. Read about what God has done for you through Jesus in the book of John and start believing what God says.
